ÉGLISE SAINT MARTIN

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88270 > Ville-sur-Illon > Rue de Dommartin

Church of the former parish of Dommartin attached to the parish of Ville-sur-Illon in 1792, it is also the church of the village of Ableuvenettes (village without church). The present building, made of variegated sandstone (pink, grey and white), would have replaced a Romanesque church built around 1050. The reconstruction, at the beginning of the 16th century, was financed by the lord Antoine de Ville. The four-bay nave is flanked by two chapels (17th century); the bell tower with a gable roof rests on the chapel on the southeast side. The pentagonal choir was built in 1707. The building underwent important restorations at the end of the 19th century. Text by Colette Thivet - Association culturelle Histoire et Patrimoine de Ville-sur-Illon. Only visit of the exterior
