CHÂTEAU D'AULNOIS-SUR-SEILLE

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57590 > Aulnois-sur-Seille > Rue du château

The castle of Aulnois-sur-Seille was originally a fortified house, owned by the bishopric of Metz to protect the gateway to the Seille valley, famous for its salt exploitation. It was transformed and enlarged over the centuries by the various families who owned it. Today it is an interesting witness of the evolution of the castle, from defensive architecture to a luxurious and comfortable residence. The 18th century castle was built according to plans attributed to Germain Boffrand (architect of the castle of Lunéville). Today property of the SIVOM des Armoises (a multi-purpose inter-communal syndicate), the castle houses a nursery and primary school.
