LA CHAPELLE DE THIELOUZE

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88220 > Uzemain > Thiélouze

The Chapel of the Annunciation in Thiélouze in Uzemain Overlooking the Canal des Vosges, in a soothing setting, the Chapel is open every day for self-guided visits. Restored in 2016, this multi-secular building from the end of the 13th century houses a dozen remarkable religious objects, eight of which are listed or classified as historical monuments. Dedicated to Our Lady of the Annunciation, the Chapel is of simple and composite architecture. Its entrance portal is Romanesque and the Marian devotion from the time of its construction is confirmed by the presence of a 14th century limestone statue of the Virgin and Child and a bell dated 1504. One of the sculptures known as the "3 hares with common ears" among the most successful in the world appears on a stone of the facade A Brotherhood of more than 600 members fervently demonstrates the inhabitants' long-standing attachment to this important heritage and religious site. The interior of the Chapel calls for meditation. The mural colours and the celestial light diffused by 3 double-glazed windows invite you to calm down. The observation of the religious objects in linden or oak wood judiciously exposed (Virgin with Child, Saint Anne, Saint Nicolas and Christ on the Cross) and the contemplation of the painting of the Annunciation by Nicolas Bellot lead to wonder.
