France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88200 > Remiremont > rue Charles de Gaulle
The main artery of the city, lined with arcades dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and witnesses of a bygone era, they are unique and have different shapes: sometimes the arch is narrow and round, sometimes of medium width and low or wide and basket-handle, which makes them all different. They have kept their commercial vocation and magnify the Charles de Gaulle street - still the main shopping street of the city - with flowers in summer or lights in winter. At the entrance to the street is the bronze statue of the Volunteer, the work of the sculptor Chopin. It was erected in 1899 for the 110th anniversary of the French Revolution in order to remind that the district of Remiremont had provided a very high number of soldiers for the defense of the young republic and the country in danger.
