In 1829, Mayor Stanislas Bresson had two fountains built on either side of the Faubourg de Neuvillers (now the lower part of the rue Charles de Gaulle). The Capuchin Fountain is one of those that encroaches a little on the road. Its opposite side was destroyed in 1878 to facilitate traffic. It is fed by the source of the Capuchins, located in Faubourg d'Alsace. This spring bears this name because it supplied water to the Capuchin convent located on the site of the former Banque de France (boulevard Thiers).
