In November 1944, the entire historic centre of the city was reduced to ashes by the retreating German army. As the reconstruction plan proposed by Le Corbusier was not adopted, it is a more classical urban planning but typical of the 1950s that has shaped the face of the current city. Thiers Street and the Claude and Duval factory are the most emblematic examples of the reconstruction of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges.
