LA CHAPELLE SAINTE ANNE DE MARTIMPRÉ

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88430 > Gerbépal > Lieu-dit Martimpré

In 1608, when the estate belonged jointly to Nicolas-Henri de Martimprey and his first cousin, Eléonore, Nicolas-Henry had this chapel dedicated to Saint Anne built. In 1614, Eléonore ceded all her property rights to her cousin. In 1609, the chapel was consecrated by Monseigneur des Porcelets de Maillane, bishop of Toul, the diocese on which the region depended at the time. The chapel has 3 distinct parts : - the choir, the oldest part, narrower and vaulted with ogives. - the nave, later, with a ceiling and, like the choir, two Romanesque windows. A triumphal arch in full arch separates it from the choir - a vestibule, a sort of large canopy supported laterally by 2 walls and intended to protect the faithful from the wind and rain. If the roof is made of slate today, in the past it was covered with "essies" (name of the wooden tiles in the Vosges) The bell tower houses a bell from 1671 with the original inscription "Laurens Wichracht me fecit" and the one engraved later with a chisel "I was blessed by M.N. Didelot, parish priest of Gerbépal, on July 26, 1809", for the bicentennial of the chapel. The altar in pink sandstone and altarpiece date from 1695, offered by Jean de Martimprey, parish priest of Lapoutroie, as the sign on the entrance door reminds us. A pilgrimage is held there every year at the end of July.
