ROUTE DE LA LIGNE MAGINOT AQUATIQUE

It was built to establish a natural barrier to the advance of German troops during World War II. As the flow of the "Mutterbach" river was too low and irregular, the reservoir ponds (6 in number) could supply the diversion bays under all circumstances by a drainage system and flood the area in 36 hours. Today, these ponds have been converted to fishing and tourism: - Diefenbach pond: this is the largest of these ponds in terms of area, capacity and dike height. - Etang des Marais de Rémering : peaceful valley situated between 2 forests which, at the beginning of the 30's will become a military reservoir pond intended to supply the "Venice of the front". - Etang de Hirbach - Holving : remains of the "Casemate du souvenir", dam built on the road, dike leading from Holving to Hirbach, Etang de Hirbach, built to flood the valley (today an open-air leisure centre in Holving).
