ROCHER DU CORBEAU - KRAPPENFELS

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57820 > Lutzelbourg > Lat. 48,7372 Long. 7,2563

Several rocks in the region bear the name "Rocher du(des) Corbeau(s)" (or "Krappenfels"), a reference to Scandinavian and later Germanic mythology and the god Wotan. One example is the Raven Rock overlooking Lutzelbourg in the Burgerwald forest, which offers a magnificent view of Lutzelbourg castle. In Scandinavian mythology, the raven has a positive meaning, playing the role of messenger and guardian. Every day, Wotan releases them to roam the world, returning in the evening to report to their master on the affairs of mankind. Don't miss the lion, carved from sandstone and ready to pounce. Engraved on it are a date and initials, no doubt those of the sculptor and the date on which this astonishing sculpture was made. How to get there: from the village of Trois-Maisons via Rue du Krappenfels. Park in the parking lot on the edge of the forest and follow the green-ringed Chemin forestier du Centenaire for around 500 m, before leaving it and taking the path down to the right to the summit of Rocher du Corbeau.
