ROCHER ET TABLE DE LA PAIE

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57850 > Dabo > Lat. 48,6607 Long. 7,1992

Situated in the heart of the Dabo and Walscheid forest massif, in the valley where the crystal-clear Zorn River meanders, the pay rock is at a strategic point in the logging industry. The boulder and sandstone table are believed to have been used as a pay station for loggers. Between 1902 and 1966, the cut wood from logging operations on the massif was evacuated by the Zorn Valley forestry train (the counterpart of the Abreschviller forestry train). The route of the forest road often merges with the old railroad line, whose terminus was at Neustadtmuhle, where the remains of the Stampfmuhle unloading platform can still be seen, near the soccer stadium. How to get there: from Neustadtmuhle, take the Zorn forestry road which leads past the Château restaurant to the Stampf pond. Park and continue on foot along the forest road for around 1.5 km.
