France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88160 > Fresse-sur-Moselle > rue de la chapelle

Located at 767m altitude, the Chapel of the Vés de Fresse sur Moselle was built in 1863 by the farmers of the hill of Fresse sur Moselle with materials from the old village church. Its evolution: - 1939-1945: The Chapel suffered heavy damage... only the walls remain standing. - 1948 : The commune of Fresse/Moselle rebuilds the Chapel and adds a shelter for walkers. - 1996 : 2 Fressiots volunteers undertake a project to renovate the Chapel with the aim of restoring it to its original 1863 appearance. - 1998 : Thanks to the support of the municipality, which agrees to finance the materials, the work can begin. About fifty volunteers, most of them retired workers or craftsmen, work according to the rules of art and tradition, using the techniques of the past. The Compagnons du devoir, who are very interested in the project, offer the technical study, the realization and the assembly of the spire, in accordance with 17th century techniques. - On 25 June 2000, the Chapelle des Vés was inaugurated in the presence of Christian Poncelet, President of the Vosges General Council and President of the Senate. - In November 2001, the work of the volunteers is rewarded by obtaining the 1st prize of the great North-East, awarded by the FNASSEM (Fédération Nationale des Associations de Sauvegarde des Sites et Ensembles Monumentaux). From the church of Fresse sur Moselle, go up to the right towards the Bar du Centre then follow the Rue de la Chapelle. Open every day.
