ROCHER DES TROIS FIGURES

This sandstone rock, not far from Lemberg, bears a sculpture whose origin is undoubtedly funerary. Two figures, a little smaller than the human stature, are depicted in a rather crude execution. It is said to be a peasant couple. Each is installed in a sort of niche. A third, much smaller and barely sketched figure can be guessed to the right of the other two figures. Finally, still to the right, in the lowest part of the rock, are engraved triangular or cross-shaped signs considered as runic signs Originally the rock was called "Drei Bilder Felsen". The name was francized and translated as the Rock of the 3 Figures. The valley below is naturally called "Dreibilderthal".
