In 1984, the Town Council of Bitche decided to create a garden in the Stadtweiher valley, which extends to the south of the town, at the foot of the Citadel. Very soon, the idea was born to install sculptures there and to make it a place of experimentation for contemporary public art in a town of 5,800 inhabitants. This experience is unique in France for a city of this size. So artists were asked to design a work for a specific site, taking into account, of course, the general environment. So far the following works have been completed: The Fountain of Jean Amado Laurent Amat's Little Citadel The great visit of Lovato The white beach of Pierre Tual The column of Bitche by Bernard Pages Philippe Starck's candelabra Other implementation projects are to come. The Stadweiher Park and its works can be viewed freely all year round.
