CIRCUIT LA CHAPELLE DU SUISSE

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88230 > Fraize > Place Jean Sonrel

A pleasant route that will take you up to the heights of Fraize and take you to the promontory of the Roche de Rovemont, making a detour to the Chapelle du Suisse where you can meditate ... Marking : yellow rings Duration: 2 hours Distance: 7 km Difference in height: 100m uphill Departure : From the Tourist Office of Fraize (altitude 507m) take the rue des Hauts Jardins and then go behind the big white building to reach the start of the circuit. After a few hundred meters an arrow indicates a path on the left which leads to the edge of the forest that can be seen from the start. Taking the path on the right, in one minute you will find yourself at the foot of a monumental statue of the Virgin and Child placed on a high pyramid of Vosges granite. A short rest to enjoy the view of Fraize and the mountains in front, then following the yellow ring that we meet here and there on the circuit, we arrive in a few minutes at the "shooting range", the name of this place is due to the presence of a huge building that looks like a fortress and which was used for the training of the soldiers of the 158th RI in barracks in Fraize in 1914, when the French-German border separated Alsace annexed to the town of Fraize. 1- Going along the building on the left, one enters again in the forest by a slightly uphill path. After 600m, it joins a wide track coming from Clefcy which is followed by the left, in strong rise, to arrive in 15 mn at the Chapelle du Suisse. 2- Continuing for another 20 mn on a slightly uphill path, we come to a wider track which we must take in front of us. After 200m, leave it for another wide track which rises to the Fairy Rock, made up of a heap of very large granite blocks. 3- The last ascent of the circuit allows you to reach the Roche de Rovemont (altitude 754m) near the television relay with a beautiful view on the valleys of Petite and Haute-Meurthe before starting the steep descent on a track which soon leads to another wider track. Turn right to follow the latter for 800m. You will then find the forest road on the outward journey which you will follow for 200m. At the crossroads, you continue on this road to the right and downhill. At the exit of the first sharp bend to the left, turn right to follow a path that winds through the forest and takes you back to the exit of the forest on the old railway track towards the Tourist Office. Benches at the disposal of the walkers encourage meditation and daydreaming ...
