Located on the edge of the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, this 17th century castle built by François Mansart for René de Longueil, Marquis de Maisons and Superintendent of Finances for Louis XIV, is a model of classical French architecture. It inspired Versailles and Vaux-le-Vicomte. Its purchase in 1777 by the Count of Artois also played a key role in the development of horse-riding activities in Maisons. The discovery of the grand staircase (1640), the king's apartment and the salons of the Count of Artois are among the highlights of the visit.
