Located in the heart of an 85-hectare estate, the Champs-sur-Marne castle is a jewel of neo-classical architecture, typical of the pleasure houses of the Enlightenment. Built between 1703 and 1708 at the request of Paul Poisson de Bourvallais, Louis XIV's financier, its illustrious occupants were the Duke of La Vallière, the Marquise de Pompadour and Marcel Proust. Damaged during the Revolution, the estate was bought in 1895 by Louis Cahen d'Anvers, a banker in love with the XVIIIth century, then restored by the best workers and craftsmen of the time. From this period, the castle of Champs-sur-Marne has kept its lustre and is used as a setting for many films and exhibitions.
