France > Hauts-de-France > Aisne > 02200 > Buzancy > Camping de la Samaritaine

Pedestrian - 14.3km - 3h15. This hike has become emblematic of the Buzancy area. It is accessible to all walkers and heritage enthusiasts. The Masmes chapel, set in a clearing, bears witness to a basilica erected as early as the 9th century. The chapel itself dates from the 13th century. Legend has it that Charlemagne, lacking food and water on his return from a war in Saxony, implored divine mercy and struck the ground with his sword. A clear spring immediately gushed forth. The emperor had an impressive basilica built, but it was destroyed in 1759.
