Randonnée "Le Castrum Saint-Michel"

France > Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur > Bouches-du-Rhône > 13530 > Trets

Hike from Trets town center to "Castrum Saint-Michel", the ancient fortified village of Trets where the first castle stood.

Park at the parking lot of the college, Avenue Marius Jatteaux, then go up towards the municipal swimming pool at the top of the avenue. At the end, turn left into Avenue de Grisole, which later becomes Chemin de Grisole. You will walk for a while on this path, which is quite long and narrow, and unfortunately has some traffic. At the end of this path, you will see on your right the entrance to the Grand Boise winery, continue straight ahead until you reach the metal forestry fence. Go past this fence and take the rural road that will lead you to the Castrum Saint-Michel. You will pass by some villas, but as long as you stay on the forestry and communal path everything will be fine. Continue straight ahead, do not take the path that goes down on your left after 20-30 minutes of walking. As you continue you will see that the path becomes slightly steeper. After this climb, in a bend you will see on your left the remains of the ramparts and the traces of the castrum (fortified village) of the 9th and 10th centuries, a path leads you there. Further on, the ruins of the chapel are on the north side of the site, with a magnificent view of the summit of Mount Olympus and the Aurelian Mountains. Depending on the season, you can see the Canal de Provence through the forest. This site is regulated by prefectural decree from June 1st to September 30th. Consult the map of access to the massifs on: www.myprovence.fr/enviedebalade or www.bouches-du-rhone.gouv.fr or on 0811 20 13 13.
