According to current research, the archives of Lorraine and Barrois contain thirty-four mentions of animal and insect trials between the middle of the 14th century and the first third of the 18th century. How can we explain the fact that, throughout this period, societies found it perfectly reasonable to bring animals and insects to justice? A lecture offered in conjunction with the "Jugement(s)" exhibition at the Centre des Mémoires Michel Dinet / Archives Départementales de Meurthe-et-Moselle (Nancy) from April 15 to September 29, 2024. Free admission.
