The Charlemagne waterfall is a waterfall made up of several small successive falls located on the course of the Vologne, about 500 or 600 meters upstream from the lake of Retournemer. This waterfall takes its name from Charlemagne who, according to the legend, quenched his thirst there in 806 while crossing the Vosges mountains on his way to Alsace.
