COMMUNE DE ROMBAS

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57120 > Rombas > Place de l'Hôtel de ville

Rombas, the main town in the Orne Valley, in the heart of a 400-hectare forest, is a dynamic city that has successfully combined quality of life, care for the environment and modernity. The origins of the city are very old. Traces of human presence have been found on the foothills of the Drince coast dating back to 15,000 years before our era. In the 9th century, the monks of the Gorze abbey taught the villagers how to cultivate the vine, which was for a thousand years the main source of income. From its agricultural and wine-growing past, Rombas keeps many traces, notably in its architecture. In the 19th century, Rombas underwent significant industrial development, and has succeeded in its recent economic reconversion. One of its main assets is its location, a few dozen kilometers from Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, near Metz and Thionville. The environment and the quality of life are the object of careful attention on the part of the municipality: the town center has been redeveloped, the buildings renovated, and many trees planted. The flowering is particularly well cared for, thanks to three annual plantings and the originality of the floral creations.
