VILLE DE NANCY

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54000 > Nancy > HOTEL DE VILLE #### Place Stanislas

It is called "the most Italian of the Eastern cities". From the Stanislas square to the numerous Art Nouveau buildings, its amazing and unique heritage is worth a visit. Capital of a duchy which was only attached to France in the middle of the 18th century, Nancy has always had an eventful history, which is what makes it interesting today. Its originality lies essentially in the three cities that make it up, each of which has its own remarkable heritage: the Old City, which houses the Ducal Palace, the Chapel of the Cordeliers and numerous Renaissance mansions, the New City of Charles III and, of course, the Royal City of Stanislas, an architectural ensemble made up of the Place Stanislas, the Carrière and the Alliance, and for which Nancy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A century later, the artists of the Nancy School, such as Gallé, Daum, Majorelle, Prouvé and Vallin, gave France its first modern decorative arts movement. Sparkling and creative, this young university town is home to 49,000 students. Labelled "4 flowers" since 1998, Nancy cultivates its botanical heritage and has many parks and gardens.
