In the field of ceramics, the 18th century had seen the emergence in the West of an infatuation with the Orient through the chinoiseries depicted on earthenware. In the last third of the 19th century, world's fairs, art dealers and collectors discovered a new art form, also from the East, known as "Japonisme", through lacquerware, prints and miniatures. Faience makers were quick to seize on the new designs, borrowed from Japan and marked by their symbolism, whether animals, dogs, waders, butterflies, or flowers, peonies, chrysanthemums, lotuses? From 1870 to 1890, the Lunéville factory produced pieces in Far Eastern shapes and extraordinary colors. Free admission.
