CATHÉDRALE SAINT-ÉTIENNE ET SON CLOÎTRE

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54200 > Toul > PLACE CHARLES DE GAULLE

Built from 1221 and completed around 1500, with a Romanesque plan and Gothic construction, the Cathedral of Saint Stephen is the symbol of Toul's rich past. Its flamboyant facade, the richest part of the building, contrasts with the austerity of the radiant gothic style that is present in the rest of the building. The cloister was built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Measuring 54m by 42m, it is one of the largest in France. An interesting series of gargoyles completes the ensemble. From mid-June until the European Heritage Days - from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, a guide is present every day at the cathedral to welcome visitors and curious. Possibility to go up to the south tower in summer. The cathedral store and treasure room are only open during the summer season!
