LES ÉTANGS D'HÉRIVAL

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88340 > Le Val-d'Ajol > Hérival

The pond of Hérival was created in the 15th century. Its first purpose would have been to support the summer flow of the Combeauté to allow the work of the mills. It was also used to provide fish. In an inventory of 1747, it is specified that the pond of Hérival gave beautiful fish "because it receives the grace of all the sewers". The "sewers" brought nutrients that enriched the environment with algae and plankton. This food benefited part of the pond's food web. This site is listed in the inventory of Sensitive Natural Areas (ENS) of the Vosges General Council. The policy of the ENS wants to be close to the men and their territory. It is based on the preservation of the site over a period of at least 15 years and the implementation of a biological management plan. The actions undertaken within the framework of this policy benefit from significant technical and financial support from the Conseil Départemental des Vosges.
