Col du Carcan

France > Bourgogne-Franche-Comté > Saône-et-Loire > 71520 > Tramayes > Eglise

Along Tramayes' verdant lanes, you'll come across isolated farms and pastures where flocks of sheep and cows graze.

The Monts du Mâconnais, of which Mère Boitier is a part, are the result of the Alpine uplift. From the summit, the view offers a panorama on the Saône valley, the Revermont, and then on the horizon and depending on the weather, the Jura, the huge mass of the Mont Blanc and part of the Alps. The access to the site can be done by the road to the parking. The multiple connections of the "green walks" allow to reach the site by different itineraries. (TYS2 and TYS3). La Mère Boitier : a legend says that the Boitier mother was an innkeeper murdered in the time of the stagecoach, but the toponym "mure" seems to indicate an old populated site. The route "Les dessous de la Mère Boitier" allows you to get to know the diversity of the flora by going around the massif and reaching the orientation table from the south. Mont de la Mère Boitier (758 m) Tramayes : highest point of the Mâconnais mountains. 360° panorama on the Alps, the Jura, the plain of the Saône, the mounts of Mâconnais, Charolais and Beaujolais. Col du Carcan (646 m) : very beautiful viewpoint on the Mâconnais mountains and the valley of the Petite Grosne. Church and its classified Romanesque bell tower from the 12th century : partly destroyed in 1793, it was rebuilt in 1848. 16th century castle : private property. Only the park, from which Lamartine liked to contemplate his castle of Saint Point, can be visited. Site of the Madonna: statue of the Virgin and panorama on the village. Joseph Dufour : famous creator of panoramic wallpapers born in Tramayes.
