From a small Prussian noble family, Otto von BISMARCK was to become a giant of history. He climbed the ladder of power to become Minister-President of Prussia, working alongside King William I. In fact, he was the ruler of the country. In fact, he was the ruler of the country, and very ambitious. He wanted Prussia to replace Austria as the state that would unite Germany from a confederation of independent states. He would have to fight three wars to achieve his ambition? including the war of 1870. This war enabled BISMARCK to unify Germany and annex Alsace and Moselle. He turned his king into an emperor. He also pursued a bold social policy, inventing social insurance and a pay-as-you-go pension scheme. The young Wilhelm II dismissed him, for which BISMARCK never forgave him. Lecturer Yves Moritz is the author of several history books, including Dictionnaire de la guerre de 1870. The public can visit the gardens at 7pm, attend the lecture at 7:30pm, then dine in the tearoom and covered terrace at 9pm.
