LE GÉOSCOPE

The Geoscope is an installation containing 45 samples of rocks found in the subsoil of Lozère. Located in an old quarry, it aims to tell the story of the geological history of the department through maps, tables and sections.

The Géoscope is an open-air exhibition dedicated to the geological history of Lozère over 500 million years. Through the 45 mega-samples of the exhibition, you will discover the structure of the subsoil of the department and the rocks that make up the subsoil of the Lozere territory: basalt rock (Aubrac), granite (Margeride), limestone (Causses) and micaschist (Cevennes). You will also discover a map showing the geological distribution of the department, tables relating the history of the Earth from its origins to the present day, as well as various rock sections.
