ÉGLISE SAINT-MARTIN

The church of Saint-Martin du Fau-de-Peyre, built entirely of granite, dates from the 13th century. Romanesque, it presents the traditional characteristics of the churches of Aubrac with its bell-tower-comb. The interior of the building honors the sobriety of the Romanesque style and gathers in its choir the elements of devotion to Saint Martin.

A Romanesque building from the 13th century, the church of Fau-de-Peyre is endowed with an architecture typical of the churches of the Aubrac. Built entirely of granite, it has a bell tower-comb dated 1797, when the building was rebuilt following the Revolution The particularity of this building lies in its original architecture, particularly that of its bell tower. It has four bays, three of which are open and one blind. Moreover, the attention paid to the sculpted elements is also remarkable. The three pinnacles are surmounted by granite blocks carved with the effigy of the Trinity. Inside, the Romanesque style dominates through its sobriety and its semi-circular vaults. On the west side, a magnificent oculus representing Saint-Bruno in the white costume of the Carthusian monks is visible. In the northern arm of its transept, the church houses a granite baptismal font. Dedicated to Saint Martin, the church has a statue and a stained glass window in its choir representing the saint
