ÉGLISE SAINT-JEAN-BAPTISTE

On the heights of the village of Termes, stands the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste dating from the 17th century. Its architecture and decoration make it one of the exceptions in the Hautes-Terres region. The chapels and the choir are decorated with warm-toned checkerboard paintings and paintings with plant motifs.

The village of Termes is home to a late church, dating from the 17th century. Located on the heights of the village, it is one of the three exceptions in the Hautes Terres. It is one of the rare churches in the region to have a low spire and not a comb-belfry or a wall-belfry. Built entirely of granite stone, it remains faithful to the Romanesque style in its austerity and homogeneity Its particularity also lies in the interior of its sanctuary. The walls and vaults are decorated with polychrome paintings. Warm-coloured paintings decorate the choir of the church on the bottom of the walls and on the arches of the vaults. The chapels are decorated with plant motifs at their openings and with coloured checkerboards on the arches of their four-sided vaults The choir houses a magnificent Christ on the Cross and the chapels have magnificent altarpieces with remarkable statues of saints.
