"Tradition has it that the church was built on the site of a druidic temple. The church was part of a monastery, first mentioned in the middle of the 12th century among the possessions of the Abbey of Aurillac. In 1365, Pope Urban V erected the priory of Ispagnac as a conventual priory and put it under the dependence of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Victor de Marseille. In 1580, the church was seriously damaged by the Protestants. It was restored at the beginning of the 17th century, then in the 18th century. Restorations are also carried out in 1807, 1853 and at the beginning of the 20th century. The 12th-century building has only been altered in its bell towers, which are believed to be from the 15th or early 16th century.
