The medieval castle of Canilhac is located in the Lot Valley, in the commune of Canilhac in Lozère. Only the ruins of the castle remain, which bear witness to a rich and ancient history. Belonging to the barons of Canilhac, the castle dates from the 12th century during the dominance of the county of Aragon on the Gévaudan. It was the seat of the oldest barony of the Viscounty of Gévaudan. Today you can see the restored keep built in opus spictum or fishbone. In the current church, the former chapel of the castle is the emblem of the carved coat of arms of Canilhac: a greyhound. The lower room has been consolidated and now houses the town hall. The castle is registered since 2011 in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
