Grande Tourbière de Marchiennes

Situated to the south of Marchiennes, the Marchiennes peat bog, owned by the département, is, along with the Vred peat bog, one of the last alkaline peat bogs in northern France. Made up of depressions criss-crossed by a network of comb-shaped channels, the Grande Tourbière boasts a highly original landscape, rich in flora and fauna. The Grande Tourbière is classified as an Espaces Naturels Sensibles (ENS) and ZNIEFF type I and II. It can only be visited on guided tours organized by the Conseil départemental du Nord.
