He tells the story of a job he didn't choose: he was made for the great outdoors. He should have taken over the family farm, a dairy cow breeding operation, but in the end it was in his toll booth, barely more than a square meter in size, that he spent the last twenty years. It has become his refuge. Denis is intelligent, almost too much so according to those close to him: "This boy is so intelligent that he ends up being stupid! He has become accustomed to the tolls, the three-eights, the repetitive tasks, the carbon monoxide, the nitrogen dioxide, the cramped conditions, the heat, the solitude, the lack of consideration often shown to him by his fellow drivers. In 2015, everything changed. He was told he had to leave his cabin, automation was underway. A storm never comes alone, and at the same time, a dramatic event reminds him of where he came from, his life before, the great outdoors, a world that is fading and sinking.
