The Psychotic Monks + Ellah A.Thaun

Date:

Psychedelic Rock

There's a shared sensibility that, since 2015, has united the four members of THE PSYCHOTIC MONKS. In perpetual discovery, intoxicated by experimentation, they nurture a revolt that takes shape on stage, where they transform themselves. With no identified leader (everyone writes, sings and composes), the Parisian band's latest opus, Pink Colour Surgery, offers synthetic, noisy punk directly connected to the din of the unconscious, inviting you to let go. You're constantly hypnotized, jostled, as its soul flirts dangerously with a furious, oppressive trance. How addictive does the journey become? Experiencing their music is an intimate, sensory experience, the blast of which is still felt long afterwards. ELLAH A. THAUN Unclassifiable, the ELLAH A.THAUN quartet led by songwriter Nathanaëlle-Eléonore Hauguel, celebrating 7 years of existence and offering "a strangely homogeneous blend of grunge, punk rock, power pop and black metal" according to Le Gospel, is a wall of sound as surely jubilant as it is poignant. After a debut album on XVIII Records defended in 2019 and deemed "a real success" by Libération, the tight-knit band is building an ambitious follow-up, Arcane Majeur Deux. Recorded by Arno Van Colen (Bryan?s Magic Tears), still mastered by Australian garage guru Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppresion Ring), the album will be released in spring 2022. This dark, baroque record, with its labyrinthine arrangements and structure, recites both the Beach Boys and the Manson Family in 38 snide minutes, which can definitely not be reduced to its enigmatic hits (because there are some), but rather to uchronic anthems for a ghost generation.
