The association Animation et Culture de Salviac welcomes Michel Auvray, historian and journalist, for a lecture on the World Citizen epic, of which Cahors was one of the showcases.
Seven decades ago, at the height of the Cold War, when the threat of atomic war loomed large, the people of the Lot gave life to Victor Hugo?s vow: "To have the World as our homeland and Humanity as our nation" Following the example of Cahors, on July 30 1949, 239 communes in our département declared themselves to be linked to the world community, their inhabitants World Citizens. This ideal of universal brotherhood in action was front-page news at the time. In June 1950, a Route sans frontières was inaugurated in the presence of the recently-awarded Nobel Peace Prize.
