Le Chemin Carriès

The tour starts at Place de la Liberté (Tourist Office). (D/A) Walk along Avenue de la Gare, lined with plane trees. When you reach the fire station, turn right and follow a small pond along the Chemin du Tacot. Join the Route de Cosne on the western outskirts of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. (1) Cross this road with care. Immediately take the left-hand path, then immediately turn right. Shortly after reaching Route de Donzy, turn left. (2) At an electricity pylon, turn right and follow the path through the woods. Shortly before the garage, turn left onto the D955. (3) Bear left, keeping to the left-hand shoulder. At the first crossroads, turn left into the hamlet of Les Mottes. At the crossroads, turn right. Drive along the old Mottes pottery with its chimney on your left. (4) At the junction with the D955, cross carefully, turn left and immediately right towards Argenoux. Drive through this hamlet, keeping to the main road. Cross the bridge over the Vrille and turn left onto the first track. Go alongside a lovely pond, then turn right. (5) Carefully cross the D957 and climb the Chemin de la Chapelle towards Le Biron Blanc. (6) At the crossroads with side paths, take the right-hand path and go down it, framed by hedges. The path widens and leads to Les Lamberts. (7) Continue straight ahead on the asphalt road, leaving the right and left-hand driveways behind. After approx. 200 m, the track ends in a sunken lane lined with hedges and trognes. (8) Leave the road behind and take the track opposite to reach a new road, which you cross on a slight left/right bend. Continue along this path. At Carrefour des Potiers (?uvres d'artistes), go straight ahead. Cut across a tarmac lane, past a hut housing compilations of press cuttings. Cross the Ruisseau de la Maladrerie (old wash-house on the left). (9) Cautiously cross the D2 and turn into Rue Creuse, almost opposite. Take the first turning on the left (Rue des Anseuses). At the intersection with Faubourg des Potiers, turn right. At the main crossroads (Carrefour Carriès), cross carefully to join the Grande Rue. Cross the first branch of the river and then the Vrille to return to the starting point (D/A).
