On this 9 km loop, 21 points of interest, each with a richly illustrated explanatory panel, reveal the remains of French and German facilities on either side of the front line (infirmary, command post, blockhouses, etc.), as well as part of the recently cleared trench gutters. Considered a secondary front during the Great War, the Vosges were nevertheless the scene of a multitude of fierce battles between 1914 and 1918. Every summit and every pass became the focus of a merciless battle. Faced with the constraints of the Vosges environment, the poilu became a lumberjack, a digger and a mountain dweller, giving trench warfare some highly original characteristics. In this type of warfare, the conquest and preservation of high ground is a major objective. Such is the case of hill 766, between Lusse and Wisembach. Although only a secondary objective, it was to catalyze the relentless efforts of the troops in this sector for the duration of the war.
