The highlight of St Félix Lauragais. The Collegiate Church dates back to 1317 and contains a magnificent organ dating from 1781, classified as a historical monument and entirely restored.
The construction of the organ dates back to the 18th century, in the years 1780-1781, its restoration will be epic! It will be classified as a Historical Monument in 1967. First restoration in 1930, in order to be able to play romantic music! Indeed the restorers will add keyboards, therefore notes, to the organ, and Déodat de Séverac will be able to play his romantic compositions there. In 1989, a restorer from the Monuments Historiques passed by St-Félix Lauragais and discovered this magnificent 18th century organ with all its period materials. Many organs today are mechanized and modernized for more convenience. The one in Saint-Félix is still equipped with its large rabbit skin bellows, glued with "fish bone" glue. Depending on the outside temperature, the rabbit skins must also be moistened with a cloth... the restorer is captivated but quickly realizes that the organ has been modified! What an idea to add a note! Well, he will decide to remove it! The organ goes for the second time for restoration from 1990 to 1992 and loses its romantic note, but regains its original aspect.
