Le jeu en vaut la chandelle

Date:

With its strong commitment to the local community, Louvre-Lens is multiplying its partnerships and taking part in numerous projects. For example, the museum is hosting an unusual exhibition organized by the Douai art school, featuring over fifty candleholders and candlesticks by French and foreign designers.

Le jeu en vaut la chandelle presents the pieces created for the Prix de céramique de petite forme 2022 de l?école d?art de Douai. After traveling between Douai, Mons and Hellemmes-Lille, the exhibition will end its run at the Louvre-Lens from November 29, 2023 to February 26, 2024. Directed by Amélie Vidgrain and a promoter of inventive, protean ceramics, the Douai art school has invited potters, ceramists, visual artists, designers, craftsmen and so on to create one, two or three candleholders or candlesticks. Poetic, militant, virtuoso or humorous, all these creations reveal the infinite technical and aesthetic possibilities of ceramics. Candles and candleholders are much more than just a source of emergency light! Utilitarian and decorative at the same time, they bring light but also well-being, warmth and spirituality.
