Les Marseillaises et le sport - #JESUISLEGITIME

As part of the Cultural Olympiad, a multi-disciplinary artistic and cultural program in the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Today, inequality in the practice of sport can be observed from the age of 5 for young girls. The practice of sport is gendered: from childhood, dance and gymnastics are assigned to little girls, while soccer and judo are the preferred sports for boys. Similarly, girls are all too often absent from management positions in sports associations and federations. Through this exhibition, the City of Marseille wishes to shed light on 15 portraits of women sportswomen, enabling them to recount their careers, their construction, and to occupy a public space that has been designed by men and made for men. This project takes on particular importance as France prepares to host the Olympic Games this year, where all too often able-bodied men?s sport is celebrated, to the detriment of women?s sport and Paralympic events.
