Rencontre autour de la traduction en littérature

Date:

Cycle around translation in literature: 2nd meeting with Véronique BEGHAIN to discuss the recent release of the correspondence between Francis Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald: "Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda" published by Éditions du Rocher We'll be continuing our discussion of the behind-the-scenes aspects of translation. What does it mean to translate a book? What questions does the translator face? Is translation simply the transposition of a book into another language? What are the stages and dead ends of translation? Is translation a literary work in itself? We'll tackle these questions using this fascinating correspondence as a starting point, allowing us to enter into the intimacy of this mythical couple of the Roaring Twenties. In this way, we can deconstruct the myth to better understand the relationship between this couple, caught up in the upheavals of an era and its links with literary creation.

Véronique Béghain is an English translator and professor in the Department of Studies of the English-speaking World. She is responsible for a master?s degree in "Translation for Publishing". She has already translated a number of works by F.S. Fitzgerald, notably for Éditions de la Pléïade.
