The Département de la Vendée invites you to take part in a sewing workshop at Nieul-sur-l'Autise Abbey. The assembly of pieces of natural fiber fabric dates back to 4000 BC and originated in the Middle East. In Europe in the Middle Ages, sewing was mainly reserved for women. For most people, the garment is reworked, extending its lifespan. The first use of the term "couture" dates back to the 14th century.
