Some of you may be familiar with it, others may not. The national Rotary project Espoir en Tête (Hope in Mind), with its annual film previews, promotes brain research by donating €8 to the FRC (Fédération pour la Recherche sur le Cerveau) for each cinema ticket purchased. Espoir en Tête is a beacon of hope in the fight against brain diseases. 15 million has been distributed since 2005 to fund cutting-edge materials and equipment for brain research laboratories or groups of laboratories. The FRC, Fédération pour la Recherche sur le Cerveau (Federation for Brain Research), brings together a number of teams to fund neuroscience research throughout France, and to raise public awareness of the importance of a healthy brain through a range of communication campaigns. Each year, winners are selected by the FRC, in partnership with French Rotarians. Harold Cremer, a researcher at the Institut de Biologie du Développement de Marseille (IBDM), was the winner of Espoir en Tête in 2020. Brain cancers, with their complexity, aggressiveness and resistance to conventional treatments, remain among the most daunting medical challenges of our time. However, hope lies in the commitment, pugnacity and dedication of researchers like Harold Cremer, who devote their lives to unravelling the mysteries of these conditions and finding innovative solutions to combat them.
