As part of her exhibition at the Centre d?Art Contemporain - la Synagogue de Delme, Gina Folly took an interest in a floating farm in the port of Rotterdam, where dozens of cows live and graze. The first floating cow?s milk farm, this structure is designed to moor in city harbors, produce milk directly on site, avoid long circuits and provide a viable response to land shortages in certain areas. A veritable update of the story of Noah?s Ark, this self-sufficient farm is intended as a large-scale, reproducible model for the future of agriculture. For the exhibition The Simple Life, the synagogue becomes both the receptacle and the double of this farm, recalling the past of Delme?s Jewish community (which had to farm livestock for a time, as land ownership was forbidden to them) but also the architectural form of the building, reminiscent of that of the floating farm, with its air of transparent cube.
