What is a cyanotype? It's an ancient photographic process that produces a monochrome Prussian blue print. A solution of ammoniacal iron citrate is mixed with potassium ferricyanide and the resulting solution is light-sensitive. It is brushed onto watercolour paper. Once dry, the sensitized support is exposed to UV light (the sun or a sunlamp) by contact with either a transparent negative in the format of the proof or objects (flowers, pressed leaves or other) placed directly on the sensitized support. Exposure creates zones of varying density creating a positive image directly on the substrate. Finally, the proof is washed with water to remove the residual solution, then fixed, to create an all-blue image. It's a fairly simple way of creating images, and one that's not very for you and the environment. You'll each leave with a small image of your own.
