VILLE-SUR-SAULX

A typical Lorraine village, Ville-sur-Saulx is built on a spur overlooking the Saulx river. In the 14th century, one of the oldest paper mills in France was established here. At the same time, Jacques d'Autriche sold the land of Ville-sur-Saulx to Henri, Count of Bar. Mentioned in 1212, in the 16th century the seigneury passed into the hands of Gilles de Trèves, dean of the collegiate church of Saint-Maxe and founder of the college bearing his name in Bar-le-Duc. In 1582, it was acquired by his brother-in-law Gaspard de Beurges.
