DISCOVERY : Thérondels : the village, the church Thérondels is a true Auvergne village in Occitanie, at the tip of the Aveyron. Surrounded on all sides by the Cantal, its architecture and the appearance of its gray houses, designed to withstand the harsh winters, give the village a mountainous appearance. Built on a volcanic flow, robust houses constitute its old part. More recent constructions contrast with the old ones and give a modern note to the village. The church of Notre Dame, which houses a beautiful Romanesque Christ, is mostly Romanesque with a circular chevet. It dates from the 13th century. Rebuilt and enlarged in the 15th and 16th centuries, it has a combed bell tower with a turret next to it. Destroyed by the Calvinists, this bell tower was rebuilt in 1610, to the west, replacing the old one which was above the central bay. Note the carved bases of characters symbolizing the capital sins. In addition to the wooden Christ from the 12th century, this typical church has an altarpiece and cupboards serving as credences from the 18th century.
