CIRCUIT LE TROU DE L'ENFER

France > Pays de la Loire > Loire-Atlantique > 44760 > La Bernerie-en-Retz

At low tide, discover the foreshore, creeks and small treasures of the coast of La Bernerie-en-Retz.

Set off at low tide from the wide beach at La Bernerie towards Pornic. Walk along the multicolored cliffs, past the small coves. Dare to peer into the caves carved out by the sea. The coast is so pretty! The puddles left by the sea and the small rocks covered in seaweed provide a home for anemones and shellfish. Towards the little beach of La Rinais, you'll find the remains of a tap embedded in the cliff. In the early 20th century, curists came here to drink the famous ferruginous water. You arrive at the Boutinardière beach, at the end of which you can see and hear the famous Trou de L'enfer. This pierced golden rock makes a very distinctive sound when the wind blows. It's called "the sound of hell". Also worth seeing along the way: the fish locks (at low tide from the boutinardière beach), the Voruz tower (between the Rinais beach and Crève Coeur) and the orange cliffs. Bonus: nearby, a 2 km "accessible to all" circuit circles the lake. Hiking information sheets can be downloaded from our website or obtained from our Tourist Offices.
