PRIEURÉ DE LA JAILLETTE

France > Pays de la Loire > Maine-et-Loire > 49500 > Segré-en-Anjou Bleu > La Jaillette, Louvaines

Founded in the 12th century, the priory of La Jaillette is a rare example of a Romanesque monastery in Anjou. It is located in the heart of a pretty village in blue Anjou, between Le Lion d'Angers and Segré.

The priory of La Jaillette was founded in the 12th century in Louvaines. It is organized on the same plans as an abbey, in the shape of a square: the church to the north, to the east the chapter house topped by the dormitory, and to the south the wing of the refectory and the kitchen, transformed into a manor house in the 15th century. In the center of this square is a Romanesque cloister, of which the southern bay and half of the eastern bay remain. This monument is a unique example of a Romanesque cloister in the Pays de la Loire. Accessible on reservation, the priory is also open according to a defined calendar of animations. See the Facebook page for more information.
